WHAT'S A TEA FAIRY?

Tea fairies are a group of volunteers who send cards, teas, and more to people having a rough time.

I’M NEW, HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Welcome! We LOVE our tea fairy volunteer community! Please read our FAQ before getting started. We also suggest that you pop over to our Facebook group where you can see a wide range of examples of fairy packages.

I LOVE THIS IDEA! DO I HAVE TO COMMIT TO ANYTHING TO BE A TEA FAIRY?

Nope! We’re happy you’re here and appreciate whatever time and effort you can contribute. There are no requirements or expectations for fairies. You can send as often as you like, no one’s keeping score and whatever time or effort you have to give is appreciated.

I’M SOLD! HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?

GENERAL GUIDELINES

EVERY PACKAGE SHOULD CONTAIN:

  • At least one sample of tea

  • A supportive card (see below for more info on what to include in each card)

WHAT KINDS OF TEA CAN I INCLUDE?

You can send any brand and size of tea you like, including open bags or samples from a larger package.

If tea is not in the original packaging, tea should be clearly marked with the brand and name of the tea.

Information about the tea must be written or printed clearly on a label attached to the bag. If you write on non-sticky paper, the paper must be securely attached to the bag (tape does not count as securely attached) Blank mailing labels are an easy way to clearly mark teas.

*** If someone has any allergies listed, please make sure you follow the allergy guidelines.

CARDS

Each card should include an encouraging message and information about who nominated them (if not self-nominated) to receive the card/package.

WHAT SHOULD I PUT ON THE CARD?

Each card should include an encouraging message and information about who nominated them (if not self-nominated) to receive the card/package.

If they were nominated by someone else: each card should start with “You were nominated to receive some happy mail by: [insert name of nominator]. And then include an encouraging message.

If they nominated themselves: each card should include an encouraging message.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO SEND A CARD OR PACKAGE?

Please send any cards or items within 2 weeks of getting that person’s info.

DO I HAVE TO IDENTIFY MYSELF?

No, tea fairies are welcome to remain anonymous.

I VOLUNTEERED TO SEND A PACKAGE BUT SOMETHING’S COME UP, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

That’s OK, we know that life happens! Please let us know as soon as possible if you won’t be able to send a tea fairy letter. We want to make sure all nominees receive items. Don’t worry, you can always volunteer again later.

EXTRAS

You are always welcome and encouraged to add additional items (purchased or handmade) that you think your person might enjoy, but it’s not required.

WHAT'S NOT ALLOWED

OLD FOOD OR TEA

If you don’t remember when you purchased it, think twice about sending it. If anything smells off -- including mildewy, no smell (tea loses flavor over time, so if it doesn’t smell like anything, it won’t taste particularly good either) -- don’t send it.

PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS

If you would keep it in a fridge or it isn’t supposed to last more than a few days from the time you purchase it, don’t send it.

USED ITEMS THAT YOU WOULDN’T WANT TO RECEIVE USED

A good rule of thumb is: if you can tell it’s been used, don’t send it. This includes open/used candles, notebooks, beauty products, and opened non-tea food products (such as jams or snacks.) The one exception is books. As long as the book is in good condition (spin it intact, no water damage or missing pages) it’s ok to send used books.

ALLERGY GUIDELINES

If your nominee has listed any allergies please make sure all ingredients for every tea and food item are clearly listed so they can make sure everything is safe to eat.

Ingredient lists cannot be handwritten. They can be printed on paper or emailed. If ingredients are listed online, you are allowed to send links to product websites via email.
